We had a busy, busy weekend. We have a lot coming up the next couple weeks so there was a lot I wanted to do with T before we ran out of time. I was able to get my running in on Friday so I had some extra time on Saturday to take T to the movie. It rarely happens that I do not run Saturday morning's but I really wanted to take T to the 10 am showing of The Lorax. The Kearney Theater shows all 8 movies at 10 am on Saturday's and for $5 you can get admission, popcorn, and pop. This is a great deal but everyone in town thinks that so it was crazy to go at that time. I even allowed T to get a pop since going to the movies was a special treat for him. First movie and first drink of pop- I am not sure which one he liked more. The movie was great and T did amazing. He sat so good and only got restless at the end. I am not sure we will go to the 10 am showing because there were so many people there but we will definetly go to more movies.
I also wanted to take T to see the cranes this weekend. I honestly had forgot all about them until I heard them outside one day and it reminded me so much of my father I just had this strong feeling that I needed to take him. My father was crazy about those stupid birds. He would make us go every year. We would stay in St. Paul and then have to get up before sunrise to drive to Grand Island so you can see the birds land or take off- which ever one it was- clearly I cared a lot about the process. I hated it, sitting in the back of the car with my siblings while dad drove country road to country road stopping to look and take pictures of some dumb birds. Which, I swear was all morning. Once he was done looking at birds we had to go to Stuhr Museum to look at crane art and wait for him to buy some picture of these damn birds. Uugh! I avoid them now at all costs, I really don't care if I see another crane- oh wait, I would go to Kansas to shot one. However, this year I really wanted to go. So we went.
Dad was clearly missing the mark on crane watching. Rowe Sanctuary is the place to go - they even have a blind that sits out over the river so you can watch them take off and land. It was a sea of gray with all the cranes along the road into the sanctuary. Some lady was trying to talk us into staying and going out to the blind for sunset- no thanks. Thank god Dad did not take us to this place. Sitting in a cold blind for hours sounds even worse than aimlessly driving aroudn in the county. Dad was into birds, it was his thing- me not so much. All in all, Thatcher seemed to enjoy it and I am sure we will take him back again.
