In less than a week we have had a series of close calls that could have ended up badly for the parties involved- parties meaning us. On Tuesday I was out running on the trails north of Kearney. I was doing hills which I "love" and was not paying attention to where I was stepping and stepped on a pine cone and rolled my ankle. I thought my ankle was done for as I thought I sprained it and therefore my Vegas dreams would be dashed or greatly compromised. I walked for quite a while in pain and wondering how I am going to get back to my car that was over a mile away. I kept walking it off and it did loosen up enough to where I thought I could run on it. I did end up finishing my 4 miles that day and went home and iced it. Mike kept telling me it looked bruised but I think my brain was still in denial and couldn't see what he was talking about. I did run on it this week and it seems to be getting better. I can tell it is not a 100% yet, it seems looser and I need to be careful with how I step and how I turn it. A bad situation was certainly avoided!
On Friday night we were at home watching Thatcher play in the curtains like he enjoys doing. He twirls around and acts funny and plays peek a boo. We should stop him but we don't because it is entertaining and it keeps him busy. While I am not sure what exactly happened but it looked to me like the curtain threw him into the window ledge. As he went down he caught the bridge of his nose on the window ledge. He of course instantly freaked out, it started bleeding and swelling up. Mike thought he broke his nose so he thought we should take him in to the ER. Now if I would have taken more biology classes in my life I would have known that there is just cartilage right there in his nose as bone has not formed yet. However the only thing I remember from High School Biology is the study of XY Chromosomes and Don Moss's speech on TSS - which the girls thought was hilarious as he had no idea what it was when he picked it. I can't even tell you what my presentation was on but I remember his. In College "carefree, never having kids" Carrie took the easy way out in the science department and took Earth Science and Meteorology. Biology/Anatomy is not my strong suite but I did know that we have meet our deductible and I have an insurance plan that pays us for every time we use the ER or have an accident. So we took him in to make sure he didn't break anything and he is fine, he looks terrible but he is fine.
To keep the series of close calls going on Sunday I went to get in my car and my registration and a receipt were sitting out. Mike was standing there so I said" Were you digging in my car?" He looked at me funny and at at the instant I knew that someone had broke into my car. I have been having problems with my car doors locking and I need to take it in but I just haven't had the time yet because we don't have a local Kia Dealership here and just happend to be sitting outside which rarely happens but Mike was working on a project in the garage so it sat out that night. My CD's- which who uses CD's anymore?- and my Tom Tom were stolen. While I am upset about my Tom Tom and REALLY upset about my Heart's Greatest Hit's CD it could have been worse. I normally have a lot of other more valuable stuff in my car including my wedding ring. I hate to work out with my jewelry on so I tend to leave it in my car- don't go breaking into my car now that you know this! I know those hood rats just destroyed my Heart's CD as they probably have no idea that they are a great classic duo! Ugh! I will say I feel a little violated as there were things in my car that had our names on there and our address. I mean I know they know where I live but it just grosses me out that some punk was sitting in my car and going through it. I went and washed and vacuumed my car yesterday trying to get the punkness out of my seats.
So there you have it. Things happen in threes and we had our three close calls- which means we should be good for a while. Our at least I hope we are!
